I recently got a 486 to use with an ISA card that runs a lap counting system for a radio control racing club. Everything was working fine except external speakers. I open it up to make sure the sound card was plugged in(it was) when I went to reboot it it froze up on parity check 1 I shut off and rebooted and now I get a series of beeps 1...3...4...5 any ideas?????

To interpret beep error codes, you need to know the BIOS manufacturer - although freezing on the parity check could indicate a memory problem.
Ensure all cards are firmly seated - you may have dislodged something - likewise with the memory sticks. You might also try resetting the BIOS to default values, if that option is available
Resist the temptation to close your request for help with semantically-null questions like “Can anyone help me?”

I checked the memory cards and all other connections and everything firmly set. I can not get anything on the screen.
How can I get to the BIOS to reset?

It's a BIOS option, but those vary, depending on manufacturer & model
You should try and interpret the beeps

A parity check 1 is definately a memory problem.

Is the RAM SIMM or DIMM?
If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

fed up: This question is about your lap counting system. Does it automatically detect when the car crosses the line? If so, what kind of detector does it use. My friends race RC cars and the only cheap method we could think up requires the cars to stay in their own lane. The rfid method is too expnsive for a do it your self system.
