Depends on the LAN Protocol used, also if you are using plain W3.11 or WfW3.11 !

I do not suppose you downloaded the drivers from 3COM ?

Ringcolam:

It is hard for me to understand what you are asking. If you are asking if a 3Com 3C905 NIC will work with Windows 3.11 the answer is yes. I have a system here doing it. You need to find the DOS drivers and set the correct parameters in the config.sys and/or autoexec.bat files. Any NIC that you can find DOS drivers for should work, but again you need to set the correct parameters in the config.sys and/or autoexec.bat files.

Thanks Dosser/Harold,

My meaning is the 3C905 NIC (PCI) can support the TCP/IP protocol at WFW311?

Moreover, I have been installing the 3C905 NIC at the system, and also have installed the drive for WFW311, but, the NIC drive in the Network configuration show as the following:
3COM EtherLink PCI NICs (3C905X) (NDIS2)
Microsoft NetBEUI
IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS
I can’t find the TCP/IP protocol as listed, so I hard to add the TCP/IP protocol, but the system prompt “There are no protocols listed in the OEMSETUP.INF file, contact your network adaptor vender”

By the way, I have install other NIC (ISA AT-2000 PnP / NE 2000Compatible), the drive also have property at the system, but the Network only show the “Microsoft NetBEUI & IPX/SPX”, the TCP/IP no listed.

The two cases, I also have rebooted the system, in the DOS start-up prompt the NIC have success configured. What’s happen? Its 10 year ago the WFW311 can’t support the TCP/IP protocol?

Thanks again,

Ringco Lam

You will only have TCP/IP available in WfW 3.xx if you install the updated TCP stack:

Hi Dosser,

You are very helpful. Thanks again.

I have success install the 3C9050-TX NIC (TCP/IP) in WfW311, and the system over the TCP/IP protocol communicate with Building Management System.

Next step, I will install 3 pcs. Dialogic board (ISA slot) in the system, and then set-up telephone input/output system to control the office lighting.
