I never knew 3.1 computers still exist, thought they were all gone. I read they are even still on the internet.
Guess they are as the old cars, a lot tough then todays newer ones.
Bud

What??
Did you think that they all disappeared in a puff of smoke?
.. and what, exactly is a '3.1 computer', anyways?

Well now you do!
It may interest you know that there are far more 3.1 OS's still in Use, than you would even start to imagine!
ViVa 3.1
P.S. and whats the 3.3 in the heading for?

As Pooh would say, curiouser and curiouser.
I'm not surprised that a guy using OS 8 with a CPU/RAM 8 would be a tad out of touch with DOS and w3x.
Maybe this forum needs an 8 area.
HI, MY NAME IS 8 AND I'M AN 8!
[chorus] HI 8!

After reading many, many posts, I'm beginning to think that Justin should publish a tutorial on how to fill out the System Specs fields - it seems to be a source of endless confusion for some, others appear to enjoy inserting frivolous entries.
Either way, it kind of defeats the purpose of that feature, which was a welcome addition when first introduced (we didn't always have it)

I agree with Jboy. IMO It would be a lot more useful if Justin would change the fields into dropdown menus instead. If a user see's what is excepted, they are more like to remember seeing this info elsewhere (sticker on case, bootscreen, system properties). Plus there wouldn't be a way to enter unrelated info. A tutorial would be a good idea either way.

{sighs} - more of a rant than an actual hope for change - although Justin has made many tweaks and improvements over the years.
I like the idea of a dropdown though - people find multiple choice easier than thinking. That wouldn't be too tough to implement, at least for the actual OS.
I don't know if folks will ever stop filling in the specs for the machine they're on and not the machine in question - or else listing every OS they've ever used (bragging rights?)
Best tutorial in the world does no good if it isn't read, I'm afraid.

Just running with the idea... Maybe we will get lucky :)
Use the dropdown menus and have unsure/unknown as one of the options. When this option is selected the user will be taken to a small tutorial on determining the various details.
Just pressing WinKey+Pause will give most of the details needed (Win9x and up at least).
