Yes - But it has to be the 16bit version available via tucows.com

goto http://classic.tucows.com/hotlist.html which lists IE v3x, v4x & v5x for 16bit windows
(as at 4th Oct 2000)

Yeah I know what you're talking about with hotmail as my screen would just go berserk and keep on reloading. I've expeirence a log in problem with IE 3.01, but the strange thing is that this browser is now working. It was going on for a 3 months or so. Does hotmail gives you an option to either "continue" or download "IE 5.0"? If it does then just click on continue and you should get through.

howie, i use IE3.03 and don't have any problems loging into hotmail. it just has this nag screen, like devonare above said, where you click "continue", and you should get into your mailbox. i haven't upgraded to IE 4 or 5, because my computer is only a 386 with 4 megs of RAM, and so would be way too slow to run a larger web browser.

incidentally, i also use Opera 3.62, which has up-to-date internet features (except for java, only available in the windows 95/98 version). it's shareware, timing out after 30 days, but worth the cost ($40 US i think).

In my experience, IE4 onwards is not compatible with win 3.1 / 3.11 because of the registry issue. Ie4 was the forst microsoft browser to place setup data (proxy and other details) in the registry. Windows 3.1 doesn't have a registry to speak of (it has a limited registry, but not as involved as 95) so the installation routine usually fails at that point.
If there is a 16 bit version of ie4, then the chances are that it will work on 3.1

John - Yes there are Windows 3x (16bit) versions of IE 4 & 5 which do not use the registry in the same way as Win95 (32bit) versions. (They are written for 3x not just cutdown versions!) But as James says you need a little more spec to use them! As KKK writes, look at:

http://classic.tucows.com/hotlist.html

before you ask next time!
