Hey everyone, Im hoping that you have the time to help me out. My boss at work wants me to familiarize myself with windows 3.1 for work, and I have NEVER used the program. I have been doing google searches on this subject, but am completely overwhelmed.
any suggestions on learning basics? your thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks. Cynthia.
You may find it to be quite a readjustment in thinking, especially if you are proficient in 'modern' versions of Windows. Right click is pretty much ignored, for one thing.
Should be a few tutorials online, and Win3xx has its own Windows 'help' system
Much is similar, but the differences can be.. distracting.
Just curious what kind of work do you do that has tech support for windows 3.1?
It may help all of us to point in the right direction for what info you may need.
You might try and find yourself a copy of 3.1 "i'd more suggest 3.11 wfw" on ebay or someplace and some kind of dos that is compatible like 6.22 get yourself an old computer and install it.
Nothing stimulates the ol brain cells like wandering through 3.1.
Industry figures show that as many as 50 million PCs worldwide are still using Windows 3.1/3.11 and WfWG 3.11. Most in developing countries, but some in small companies in the USA & Eurupe, And that is an estimate! How many are 'Licenced' I wonder...
I get an averadge of 1000 hits a day on PowerLoad in total (My 2 main counters clock 700-800 visits, others are direct access to download files) and many are from company servers. OK I know this is also private users downloading patches from work. I have even logged visits & downloads by IBM & Microsoft themselves LOL! (They know I host many of the older DOS/Win files)
Please reply with a message to let us all know we are on the right track...
"I have even logged visits & downloads by IBM & Microsoft themselves"
hehehe...imagine that.
Cyn,
If your boss has a working DOS/Win3.1 machine, tell him you need another machine to work with. The learning process can be a little bumpy at times and you'll need an additional rig to play with and fix if you do something wrong.
