Specs: Servers
First of all, thank you for reading my post.

I am new in servers.I have a windows 7 computer. I got a VMWARE with with a a server 2008 installed on it.
I tried to solve this on you tube and google

I am trying to connect my computer to the domain ..and this is the message that I got:
Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "W2k8ad01.local".

The error was: "No records found for given DNS query."
(error code 0x0000251D DNS_INFO_NO_RECORDS)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.W2k8ad01.local

I can ping between the server 2008 and the client ip number. I can see other computers in the network from the client wanabe but i dont see the server in the network.

I am certainly not an expert in servers ..Can anybody please explain me how to add my windows 7 computer and make part of the domain, ? how can I fix the DNS error in VERY simple words?

Thanks in advance!

The server needs to be running the DNS service, and your client needs to be using the server as its DNS server. I suspect that one, or both of these is not the case.

The other problem is that your VM is probably configured with the network interface in NAT mode; it needs to be in Bridged mode if you want to contact it from other computers. That will allow you to ping the server; then you can correct the DNS problem.
