VPN and Local Resources

April 4, 2012 at 14:46:48
Specs: Windows 7
I have a single hosted server with a firewall and VPN. My problem is that when i connect using VPN i loose local resources (internet). I make the change in the TCP setting to use the default gateway and I loose my VPN Share drive. Is there any configuration that will give me both options. I have a Windows 2008 server no AD, and Im using windows 7 and windows VPN connection. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So if you are using the Win7 VPN client.

Right click on your VPN connection, select properties.

Click on networking and click on TCP/IP. Click the properties box and click Advanced button.

Uncheck "use default gateway on remote host"

This will keep your local internet.

Now for your share drive.

You have to use the ip address of the computer your share is on not the name of the computer.

should work

Hope this helps

Yeah i was using ip and unc but the problem was on the data center that was hosting the server. All that was needed was a static route. Thanks for your suggestion.
