Solved scripts for server without domain controller

July 9, 2013 at 16:45:32
Specs: Windows server 2008
This is a single server with multiple Remote Desktop users. No domain controller, just local user accounts.

As there is no netlogon share, where do I put logon scripts, and can they even be used?

All I need to do is map network drives. Actually it is a map to a local shared folder so that each user is isolated.

company 1's users would all get a script named company1.bat which does:

net use m: \\localhost\company1

users then do their thing from within their own isolated folder (mapped drive). NTFS permissions control that ok, but I just want a method for them to get to their folder using a mapped drive letter. They cannot navigate directly to their folder from the C drive as they don't have permissions for the root folder containing all company folders. Hence the idea of mapping a drive letter into their own subfolder.

Any suggestions?

I'd recommend that you either create a batch file for each user, or send them the instructions to map to his/her individual share.

Yes, I've done a batch file, but how to get this to run every time they login, without having to login as them initially to set it up in their startup?

The script would have to be user specific. So, you'd probably be better off just emailing them the instructions on how to map the drive.
