EB Server + 1 Domain Controller?

I'm looking to setup a new network with Server 2008 and Essential Business Server looks really appealing. I want to run an additional Domain Controller to distribute load and act as a fail safe if the primary server has problems. Should I just stick with Standard edition for the second server? There doesn't seem to be any sense in having a duplicate copy of things like System Center and Exchange.
