Can only access MY site using IP address

Specs: Windows 7
I know what you're thinking sounds easy right, well here's the situation. Recently our smooth wall took a dive and after restoring the rest of our services I noticed when going to our company domain i get a 404 error. However when typing in the local IP address or even the public IP address it brings me to the website. So why can't I get to it using the domain name? When using NSLookup I get a non-authoritive answer which does give me the right public IP with the domain. So again I pose the question what am I missing? The server hosting the site is running iis7 and apache. iis7 is hosting the intranet sites which all seem to be working just fine. apache is what's hosting the company site. I've got it listening on port 80. I did remove the default first site from iis, before I did that when I would type in the domain name it would only take me to the iis7 splash screen and not to the website either. I know this has got something to do with DNS but I'm not sure what or how to fix it.

Add an entry to your hosts file if you want to access it by the domain name.
