I am using Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition the one I got from Microsoft as a trial
version Build 3790... I am using a Wireless connection thru a linksys 2.4 Ghz 802.11b USB
adapter. I am using Zone Alarm Pro 4 30 Trial Firewall. The firewall keeps asking me for
permissions. It asks first if I want to allow Spooler SubSystem App to access the Internet.
Application is spoolsv.exe, Version 5.2.3790.0 (srv03_rtm.030324-2048) it is in the windows\
system32 folder. Should this application be allowed? What does it do? and what are the
numbers in the version number in perethesis mean? Secondlly, it asks for Generic Host Process
for Win32 Services. I do not know whether I should alow this to go thru the firewall or not.
There are many other service types of programs that zone alarm asks for permission to allow access.
These do not include normal programs like Internet Explorer, outlook, etc. I know what
to do with those. But, can you explain to me which programs and services should be allowed to go
thru in this kind of situation where I have just installed Windows Server 2003 and nothing else
and I want to surf the web. I hope u understand my question... Fresh install of OS > installation
of zone alarm .. and know what should be allowed to have access just for me to surf the internet.
All help is greatlly appreciated.

These are normal windows networking components such as dns requests and such. It is normal to allow these to access the internet, (you will find that not allowing them will block all internet browsing).

Allow Generic Host process out going but not incoming and disallow Spooler incoming and out going. It's how i configure mine and it works fine.
