XP Logon to Server 2003 Slow

Logging onto Server 2003 is incredibly slow (6 mins last count) drom win xp pro but not me or 98
tried 10 different workstations, ME and 98 is almost instant - XP Pro is very slow

Are you running any logon scripts or GPO's? If so, those will add to the boot time.

You need to update the XP machines to SP2. There was a hotfix addressed to fix just the log in delays. If you search microsoft.com you should be able to find it. I have it here, so when I find it, I'll post it for you as well.

All stations in the AD domain need to have valid DNS entry's as also the server itself. This can cause the delay. 98 & ME are pre w2000 systems and do not check network conditions.

add a host entry to the workstation
192.168.1.232 pcname
if login is faster then you have a dns issue
If a dns issue make sure that the workstations are using the local dns server as their first dns server. You can do that via static ip, or dhcp setup
