Ran into an issue installing WSUS SP1 I thought I'd share. After installing SP1 for WSUS SP1 on a server, WSUS ceased to be able to synchronize. Attempting to reinstall WSUS from scratch, but it wouldn't install showing an unknown failure to configure the SQL db. Turns out that the server in the past had been renamed. In this scenario, here's the solution. 1. Uninstall WSUS using Add/Remove Programs. 2. Manually remove the WSUS Administrators group. 3. Remove ASP.Net using Add/remove Programs. 4. Manually remove the ASPNet machine account. 5. Reboot the server. 6. Reinstall WSUS. 7. Reapply SP1. Hope this helps someone... Please help survivors of Hurricane Katrina! www.redcross.org
