I was wondering what you lot would recommend to use WinXP or Win2k3 just as a home OS. If you have a suggestion of another OS that is suitable for gaming, design and just random word processing n stuff. Then suggest away please :) Also it needs to be an OS that is compatible with microsoft products coz I don't want tohave to go get all new software.

I am pretty sure I can answer this. The home OS of choice ought to be XP home or maybe Pro. 2003 is more for office or commercial uses where many XP machines get info from the 2003 system. Read up on XP's compatibility mode. It may or may not help older games and applications run. You may have to use various settings to run setup and run files.
If you are happy with what you have then don't do anything. XP will force you to upgrade most likely. The standard MS reply will be to get all products that are xp approved.

I agree with jefro, Win2k3 server is not a desktop OS. It is designed to do what is says on the box "to be a server".
You will not get the same gaming performace from 2k3 server than as from XP, even the sound and DirextX Subsystems are switced off by default in 2k3 server.

And you are willing to pay over $600 for your computer OS? That is what Windows 2003 Server costs. Unless of course you are going to pirate it in which case I'm sure the people at MS will be happy to contact you at the email address you provided.
