I have installed windows update services and i am trying to use it but in the administrative screen i do not see any computers on the network besides the domain controller. Because of this none of them can be assigned updates. The only one getting updates is the domain controller. Is there something I am not doing?

I think you're trying to push the updates. It actually works the other way around. You can configure the clients to contact the update server and update themselves. Either do this manually or via group policy. Then you just put a tick next to the updates that you want to approve and they go onto all connecting clients automatically. You can only select the domain controller because you are selecting which update server to download the updates to.
