I am wanting to setup Terminal Server in App mode but I have read that you have to purchase licenses to do this but I have also read that if you are using Windows XP that you do not have to purchase a license. Is this true or not?

There are no built-in connection licenses for connecting to a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. XP Pro and Windows 2000 both have built-in connection licenses to connect to a Windows 2000 Terminal Server. If you will be connecting to a Windows 2003 Server, you will need to buy licenses.

Short Answer:
If you are using Win2k Server - No license required
If you are using Win2003 its tricky, you will probably need a license.
You need to by a License (CAL) if you are not running a version of Windows XP Professional purchased before April (or May cant remember which one) in 2003, when they changed the license agreement. If you are running a legitimate copy of XP Pro before the cut off date, you are entitled to one free CAL. Check the MS website to get it.
