I recently changed servers and copied some documents and programs over to the new server. When i try executing the program, I get a message saying that I may not have the appropriate permissions to access the Items. My question is. How can I use a folder that was on another 2003 Server with my New server. What do I need to do to setup Permissions?

The programs will need to be reinstalled.
The file access may be a permissions issue. Take ownership of those.

The Program is designed to run without reinstalling. There is a client that i installed that only needs the location of the Datafiles. Everytime i run that client i get the error message. I have tried taking ownership of the files and folders but it doesn't work. Maybe I'm not doing it correctly. I followed instructions from a Technet page about taking ownership and it talks about inherited permissions. I'm not too familiar with that.

"The Program is designed to run without reinstalling."
Perhaps you mean its a workstation installed program not a server based install?"When i try executing the program.."
Perhaps you would be advised to look at the local programs setup/preferances/config/ini or inf file since I will bet it is looking at the old server and location not the new one.You really need to tell us more about this program, how it works and what it does.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

The program is server based. We have been using it thru Terminal Server for several years now. I have each of the Computers in the office setup to log in to the Terminal Server and only Execute that program. It's our accounting software ACCPAC (Formerly SBT) made by Best Software. During the installation of the client, I specify where the program is installed (D:\SBTPRO) and that's it. There is no other configuration for it. It has to be a permissions issue because when i navigate through windows explorer and click on the executable, i get the same message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I don't know what you took ownership of, but if you're trying to take ownership only of the executable, that won't work. You need to take ownership of the folder. Assuming the executable permissions are inherited, that should take care of the problem.

I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I have tried to take ownership numerous times yet it still doesn't work. I did try changing the permissions/ownership on the executable to see if that would make a difference and it didnt. I will try it again and keep your all posted.
