I'm using windows 2003 on a laptop without a hitch. In fact I've used just about every microsoft O/S on a laptop without problems. Laptops are getting to be as reliable and more widely used than in the past.

reason: Study and work needs

problems: none so far so long as you check for compatability issues

Running Windows Server 2003 on a laptop, I would recommand the Standard Edition. The Enterprise Edition is somewhat sluggish and the Web Edition does not seem to support wireless access. I have a standar copy running along with SQL Server 2000 Enterprise, VS.NET 2002 Enterprise Architect, Photoshop 7, Nero 6 Ultra, full install of Office XP Pro, and many other application/databse development software on my Dell Inspiron 8100 (1GHz) as my mobile development. It's fast and blows away any of the P4 with the same configuration.

Why do you say Enterprise Edition is sluggish? I have it running on my Inspiron 8200 and it seems great. I haven't tried Standard Edition. But I tweaked everything in Enterprise Edition and turned off services I didn't need. It blows away XP in my opinion.
