I run NT4.0 and I plan to upgrade to SBS 2003. I know that the SBS 2003 package enterprise edition, comes with Exchange 2003, ISA 2000, SQL 2000, ... etc.
I would like to know:
- How many CD's are on box ?
- Can I install the Exchange Server 2003 alone on a server, ISA 2000 on another server and SQL server on another server, for better performance ?- If I know how to install and configure Windows 2003 Server and Exchange Server 2003, will I be able to use SBS 2003 the same way.
Thanks

Hello,
1) You get 6 CD's in total 1) Windows 2003 Server 2) Exchange Server 3) Server Tools 4) Outlook 2003 5)ISA 2000 And SQL 2000 6) Frontpage 2003
2) In the EULA for SBS 2003 it states that you must keep all the products that come with SBS on the SBS System they cannot be used on seperate servers!
3)SBS 2003 has really easy wizards to go through the setup process.
What Kind of specs are you looking at the run SBS on?
Thanks

If you go for the premium version, it is 5 disks, Standard is 4. The premium disk (5) has ISA 2000 & SQL on, but as above , al are installed on the one box

Thanks Ben for your help.
This is exactly what I am looking for.
I have already 4 servers that run NT4.0 server.
- the 1st server is PDC and file server
- the 2nd is BDC and Exchange server 5.5
- the 3rd is IIS 3.0 and Proxy server 2.0
- the 4th is for SQL 6.0Now, I am planing a migration to Windows 2003. I find out that SBS 2003 is the least expensive solution. But, I don't know what will happen if I install each product on a separate server.
I don't want to reorganize my network and I want to get the same performance as with NT4.0
I have another worry because I attend a course about Windows 2003 Server, but it was not SBS 2003.
- Is there any difference between Win2k3 sold alone and the win2k3 that ships with SBS2003 ?
- Can I set up SBS 2003 without using the wizards?

Hello Lamy,
There are a couple of things that you are unable to do with the windows 2003 server os that comes with SBS 2003.
SBS 2003 must be at the root of the domain. You cannot have Child domains in SBS or setup trusts to other domains.
SBS 2003 has Windows 2003 Server Std Edition just with those points above disabled with SBS.
Thanks

Hello Ben,
If I have only one domain and it is the root domain, will I be able to set up an additional domain controller for the existing domain. Just for failure redondance.
If one DC fails, the users can still logon to the domain, if the other DC is working.
(Remember PDC and BDC with NT4).Thanks.
Lamy

Hello Lamy,
You can add an additional domain controller on the SBS system which is what i have done.
Thanks

Hiya,
I'm interested in the SBS2003 resilience options. It's great that they have now allowed you to add additional domain controllers. But, if I have my domain, IIS, Exchange and SQL all on one server and it goes down I'm pretty dead. I understand that it's not possible to have a 'hot' SBS2003 on the domain as a backup? I'd love to backup my SQL and Exchange stores to another SBS machine in the same domain!
Anyone worked this problem yet?
Chat soon.
