Hello All,
I hope someone has gone through this already.
I have a domain with a PDC and BDC on NT SERVER. I want to upgrade the PDC to Server 2003 but with a brand new system that has 2003 loaded already and at this time keep the BDC NT Server. Is this possible and what is the best way to do so. Considering this:
The current NT server PDC does not have enough space to upgrade to 2003 before I replace it.

Your best bet in this case would be to install the new server with 2003 and recreate the same domain and then migrate the data and info over from your PDC.
If I'm not mistaken, you would first have to force replication in your NT domain, and then remove the PDC after promoting a BDC to PDC (redundancy). Then you could take the PDC and join it to the network you have the 2003 DC on for the migration (network separate from the working domain).
You must understand, this is not a simple task and likely would require some trial and error in order to get it working properly. Also, a lot of reading on the subject of migrating NT 4 to 2003 on microsoft's web site and any books you could find on the subject would be a good idea.

Curt, Are you sure the following is going to work?
Your best bet in this case would be to install the new server with 2003 and recreate the same domain and then migrate the data and info over from your PDC.
Because I know if you create a mydomain.net on one server and the same domain on another (different forests) no way you can migrate data between them. They will have different SIDs and will effectively be completely separate domains.
Peter
