windows 2003 slow file access

I have a new windows 2003 file server that was added to an existing windows 2003 domain. I copied files from the existing dc/fs to the new one using robocopy. When clients try accessing files it takes a long time for them to get the files open. They problem did not exist when the data was on the dc/fs. What could be wrong?
