Hi All,

I have an HP ML370G4 server with 4, 146 GB Hard Drives. I have a SmartArray642 U320 Intrl.RAID Ctrl also. Iam want to use this server as my Windows 2003 Domain Controller.

Please friends let me know whats the best way to install Windows 2003 and configure Raid 5.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards

FN

I recently configured a RAID5 on 3 disks, first you configure and build the Array from the firmware built into the Controller. You normally press a key combination at boot time to enter the controller config.
I'd recomend using the manual for the controller at this point, to arrange the RAID5. I just had to select the drives, select the RAID type, and off it went :^)

The Array then appeared simply as one single disk to the windows installer. Be aware you'll lose about 25% storage in RAID5.

Have fun.

First install WIN2003 without the hardware controller installed. Once the OS is up and the domain is setup, install the hardware controller. Go to disk management and config the remaining HD's as dynamic. Use your manual for configing the hardware raid controller on the 3 remaining disks. I recommend getting another HD and creating a mirror of your OS, as it can't reside on the raid 5 volume and you should have a backup of the OS to keep the server up. I would run backups of the OS onto the raid 5 block just in case you get hit with a virus.

Hope that helps.
