I have added windows 2003 to a network with a 2000 server and active directory. I just want it to be a file server. I have set up a shared directory on the 2003 server. If I logon from w98 as administrator I can see the shared directory. If I log on as a normal user I get the message 'Unable to locate logon server' Can anyone help with what settings need to be changed. I have set the user in both active directory on the 2000 server and as local user on 2003 server.

try to use poledit or any registry edit tool and point the win98 workstation to the 2k server. BTW, i don't think you need to set the users in win2k3 server. Just make it a member server of the 2k server and share the files from there. Should be alright ! Cheers
