network: Small... 6 clients running through a Linux Server via an 8port switch.
Internet connection is via a ISDN Router from what I can make out (set up by someone else... ISDN Modem plugged directly into a SnapGear switch/router.... not sure) as any PC can connect to the web reguardless of server status.
All Clients also check email via pop3.Project:
Replacing the Linux server with a nice new AMD64 Win2K3 server.
This server has been setup off site by my supplier. While I was an IT Admin for a 100+ client network before, we had a strong support contract. Thus I was good at "looking after" things but have never set up a server from scratch myself.So.... Client machines being Win2K and XP.... I can add users to the domain.
I can add machines to the domain (or let the DC do that)
I have set up a data share.
I can connect to the domain and the share securly from a client.
What I can NOT do, is get the new server to see the internet.
Also when I connect a client machine to the new server (Done by giving the cleint a static IP as otherwise it doesn't work), that client can no longer see the internet OR the share on the old server (still connected)Project Extension:
The new Server comes with MS Exchange, which will eventually control Email. However, given that this is not straight forward as I need exchange to look at pop3 accounts, I would rather concentrate on getting the network functional 1st.As far as I am concenred, once I have the Share working AND internet access... I am ready to switch servers.
Any suggestions very welcome.

UPDATE:
YAY i've cracked it. That odd router was assigning all IP's. All in the 192.168.0.x range. But the NEW server had been given a 192.168.1.x address, hence the need for Static IP's on the clients... hence they could no longer see the net once given such a static address.
So I gave the NEW server a 192.168.0.x address. Like magic, client PC could see new server/old server/internet all ok.
But new server still could not see the net.
So know have set new server to receive auto IP from the router and now everything works.
So now I'm ready to deploy and test this weekend.
I know this is an odd solution and I would probably be best to remove that router and configure the server to do the same job but, hey, it works and I get to sleep.
So know im on to Pop3 access using exchange but that can wait and will be in another thread probably.
Hope this info helps someone else with simualr problems.

For your and anyone with same problem. Your last problem was probably caused by an incorrect gateway. you said you changed the ip address of the server but what about the gateway? Th gateway was probably also based on a 192.168.1.x network. it needed to be the router's address.
