Any one have any good information on file locking in a distributed file system setup, got a weird issue when files are getting locked and left locked under a user name even though file has been closed by that person, and I cannot replicate it,. I have read somehwere about pre-emptive file locks but until now drawn a blank on more info front

not sure about the locking directly but double check the connected sessions and open files on the server in question and make sure that people are properly disconnecting. use the 'computer management' tool and look under 'shared folders' for 'sessions' and 'open files'. might give u a better idea of what is going on here.

I have traced a similar issue with a dos based accounts package (Sage Line 100) running in Windows XP clients connected to a Windows SBS 2003 server. Using the computer management tool and looking under open files I see that the user is leaving a file locked after leaving a module within the application. The application is not crashing and it is happening on a number of workstations. We have tested the network and replaced the server network card to no avail. There is something in Server 2003 that is preventing the lock from being released.
