OK I ordered the free evaluation CD from Microsoft.com for Windows Server 2003 and I want to run it on my home computer just to test it out. And I formatted my computer using my recovery disk which reinstalled windows 98 and when I try to reinstall windows xp it gets done copying files then restarts and says NTLDR is missing and I know what that is and the only way I have found to fix it is with a boot disk and my floppy disk drive doesn't work. So I hooked my hard drive up to a friends computer and installed XP and it worked fine on that computer and i moved it back to the mine and it wouldn't work i would get some kind of error. So I posted on here and someone said XP is hardware specific and it can't be installed on one computer and be moved to another computer because the drivers and everything. but windows 98 will work that way so i formatted again and im using windows 98. so what i really wanted to know is Windows 2003 the same way as XP does it have to be installed on the computer it's going to be used on. because i haven't tried yet. and if so what would be a way i could install it without having to use a floppy disk drive seeing as mine doesn't work?

Hook it back up to your mates pc and locate the file c:\win.ini (it is hidden so may take a bit of locating) the lines will say similar to Disk(0):Patition(0)...blah...\Windows
Remove the bit before the \Windows so it simply says c:\Windows
The second entry will say similat to ...
Windows XP=Disk(0):Patition(0)...blah...\Windowsedit it so it reads Windows XP=c:\Windows
