I have installed Win 2k3 server on my old desktop machine & now I find it runnig too slow or it just freezes after 5 minutes after booting up. I usually have press the re-start power button just to get out of this mode. Task manager doesn't respond! I have deleted internet files & cleared the history for IE browser. 2003 server is designed for Servers not desktops. And the information you have posted doesnt tell us too much. You need to find out what process's are consuming your system resources. That being said my initial statement still stands.

You should boot up and walk away. Don't click on anything. Come back in 10 minutes and review the event viewer logs.

Lots of folks have run server on a workstation. When I was at Hyundai we ran a NT DC on a dec workstation for 250 pcs in the fab.

Ok, I tried that, & it works out of every 2-3 times but on the 4 time it freezes completely & I usually have to press the re-boot button as CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work.

these are the error messages I got on the event viewer:
An error ocurred while the wizard was checking the current Windows product licence. Error code 4 0x80070005

Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number from: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt> with error: This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/even...

I have several of these error messages, all are specifying the same errors.

@2.66ghz, 2.00 GB of RAM

windows server 2003
standard edition
Service pack 1

My CPU serves 30 stations and it works just fine, I guess your Machine is darn too old for windows server 2003. try Upgrading and also try to install some Anti Virus on it. Hope it helps...
