Using Windows 2003 Server Enterprise with 9 Workstations, 4 with XP, 5 with Win2K. Users are setup to use roaming profiles and always logon from the same workstation. Terminal Services is also setup for remote access. The Win2K3 server is the Primary DC. No other DC exists. File, DHCP, DNS, WINS servers all setup. Cat 5 cabling, Star topology.
Everything had been working fine until;
1) One of the Users tried to logon and was given the error that their roaming profile couldn't be located and a local profile would be used instead. Once the logon to the local profile completes, the user gets a message that network connections can't be restored. Therefore, the user can't access any files on the server (email, folders, files, etc). After about 10 minutes the user can access their files from the server. Workstation is a laptop using WinXP.
2) Two other users have since encountered similar issues, but are never able to make a network connection or logon using their roaming profile. One is using WinXP, one using Win2K.
In all cases, logging on from a remote computer with terminal services is successful and all network resources are available. In all cases these users still have internet access once logged on with a local profile.
Profile paths are the same for all users.
Users are all members of; Domain Users and Remote Desktop Users.What causes these 2 issues? What is needed to be done to remedy this situation? Is more information needed?
Thank you for any help.

ip/dns settings all on automatic?
sounds like the computers are not connecting to the network at start up.
are these laptops taken home and then brought back? and then do they plug in the network cable before turning on the computer?
right after boot up does the lan icon in the corner have the red x accross it?
If they log off after they are able to connect to resources, and log back on is everything fine?
Is there wireless adapters on them? and could there be a wireless reciever around that you don't know about that the computers might be connecting to first? could disable them if so.

ip/dns settings all dynamic. Only one computer is a laptop. It is rarely taken home and then brought back to work. The lan cable is connected before startup. Only the laptop has a wireless adapter on it. There are no wirelless receivers around.
IF THE user's logon with a local profile instead of the roaming profile, they can still browse the network, find the server and their personal files under their profile. However if I remove them from the domain and then try to add them to the domain, the error message says the domain can't be found. Possible DNS issues?
Can anyone give me any more info, things to check out?
