Can you host a website on a windows 2003 server system? if so, how? I have XP and I am thinking of upgrading to windows 2003 server, what is the main difference in the two?

If you are a home user do not upgrade to 2003 server. It is designed for business use. Take a look at

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003
On the right under quick links select product overview.

If you need to allow more than 10 users to access your website at any one time then you will need to use server!

Forgot to mention that you can enable a web server on XP PRO using IIS

Install this from add/remove programs - windows components / IIS Internet Information services

There is a good webcast here

Or if you want to get real funky, grab an extra box, and install knoppix Linux, which has apache, PHP, and mysql. That's the real way to host a hardcore site ;)

You can enable Windows 2003 Server to run as a workstation like XP PRO ...and it runs a HELL of a lot better than xp.

and you can host a Website with both XP and Win2k3..

XP is jacked up anyway..win2k3 is what XP should have been stablility wize.
