I have a Windows dual xeon processor(2.8) with 8 gb of memory and 10,000rpm drives. I want to run basic html static pages.
So basically I have a 400Kbits/ps upload and a 3Mbps download. If my web page is 5 KiloBytes in size that means that (400Kbps / 8) means I have 50 KBytes upload and can have 10 pages served up per second. Now if more page requests come in to my server, does the page timeout or does it store those requests in memory until they can be served?
Does the users download speed improve my webservers upload speed?
Since I can only get an upload speed from my ISP up to 1.5 Mbps, I want to host it else where. How do I tell a host has enough upload speed to handle my site from crashing?

Kind of difficult to tell. Some ISP's offer cached pages. Normally a timeout could occur but you would have to really be serving up some data.

No.

Hosting of sites would then have no effect on your computer.

A good place to start is by running perfmon and see event viewer logs.

See also web pages on how to configure your server to improve this single task of serving http.

On most systems you would be better off using a server grade NIC if your processor is running very high. See perfmon. Your system may already have it. Might have to look also at your router or modem logs and specs.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

yes. I need to be thorough so I don't get ignorant replies!

An ISP will cache my website that I run from home or were you referring to a hosting company? Please explain this further.

I think you misunderstood the question. It was a separate question of how to tell if I decide to go with off site hosting, how can I tell if the hosting company has enough upload to host my site without crashing. For instance, if someone posted an article on digg.com and 100,000 hit my site at the same time. Event logs and perfmon would not be relevant if I was hosting the site on someone else's servers. I could pay for services to simulate 100,000 web page requests, but I was looking for a better option. What kind of upload does a typical hosting site have?

I didn't really get the answer I was looking for. I was told the other day if more then 5 pages were requested , the remaining requests would time out if my home servers could not server them. I was not aware of processors playing that big of a role with static html. Maybe asp.net, but static?
