i didn't see a W2K forum, so i thought i'd try this question here.
question....
windows 2000 server, using Active Directory.lets say i have a "root" folder that's shared.
underneath the share, there are 100 folders.
of these 100 folders, i want ONLY 5 to be seen by a certain group(s).
then, maybe, 5 more to be seen by a different group (and so on, and so on)...how can i make it so the groups sees ONLY the 5 folders it's suppose to see, and not the other 95. (without adding each non-wanted group to the folder and denying the list permission). i realize that the people can actually get into the folder...but i want it so they don't even see the folder - with not alot of high maintenance to get the job done.
here's an excerpt from a website, but can't figure out how to get the List Object permission to appear.
"While the List Contents permission allows viewing of all immediate child objects, using List Object allows hiding some of them. If someone doesn’t have List Contents to the parent object, List Object can be used to grant him permission to see the existence of individual child objects. That user sees only those child objects for which he has the List Object permission and the remaining child objects are invisible to him."

thank you.

I have been struggling with this for sometime now, the only answers that I have seen that can accomodate something like this is through scripting.....Novell has a much more effective way of seperating access right to folders and directories
please let me know if you come across anything useful

hmm, well it gets very complex, the simplicity is you setup the individual groups permissions for each directory on the NTFS partition, the problem is when you want the person to be able to access specific directories contained within directories that they have access to, its trivial, it all depends on the group policy permission chainin and how you incorporate it.
experiment with a few users
