Hello guys

I have an issue, same issue both

2 DL380 G5 - Dual port Embedded NIC Cards.
NIC joins point to point and tested with Network too

- I go to Network properties.
- Assigned a IP address manually.
(Use the following IP address)
- Close windows
- go to Second NIC.
- Assign a Static IP Address
(Use the following IP address). Close windows OK.
- and go back to the first one, now the IP address is assigned manually it's not there anymore and "Obtain an IP addrres automatically" is marked.
- if EU run an ipconfig /all
- the STATIC IP ADDRESS is still there but the DHCP enabled: YES when should be NO.
- I can ping the server everything is fine but when I reboot the server. It tries to look for DHCP and got an invalid UP address.
there is no DHCP server or similar generating a IPs.

So the static IP address is there but Windows automatically change it to DHCP and that affects when server is rebooted.

Any ideas, is that an know issue with W2003? SP2 by the way.

thanks

I don't have the exact answer but let me offer an work around that I used with a NIC that gave me a similar problem. It was on a Unix box but it doesn't matter.

I left it as DHCP but I went into the router settings and I set a particular DHCP IP address so that it was only given to the device on the Unix box. In other words, bind it to MAC address of that NIC.

yeah that's a good idea, but I forgot to add this

the dual port embedded one goes to switch and the other embedded is is used for heartbeat with the other embedded in the other server...

I never used heartbeat. It's beyond my scope. Maybe you can find an error in the event viewer that would be of some help.

Are you trying to assign the same subnet to both nics?
Are you running a cluster hence the heartbeat?

well this is the configuration when I can assign them static and after that they change to DHCP automatically and after reboots they don't work anymore

NIC 1

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes ****
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration IP Address: 10.10.10.25
Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0

NIC2
DHCP = Disabled
IP Address = 167.118.103.218
IP Gateway = 167.118.103.1
IP Mask = 255.255.255.0

they are in different subnet, yes it is a cluster

You can only have one gateway and your gateway entry is on the cluster which is wrong.

I don't know how you got
"Autoconfiguration IP Address: 10.10.10.25"

When autoconfiguration is enabled you get a 169.254.x.x ip address if no dhcp server is found.

Looks to me like someone did a reg hack. I would suggest that be undone. This is the source of your issue, invalid registry values
