I have a Win 2000 Server domain setup, at home for learning purposes. A domain controller, a W2K Svr DHCP server, a Win2000Pro client and a WinXP pro client. I have Terminal services running on the domain controller and everything works fine, (in Remote Admin mode). I did not have to get any licensing for the clients.
I want to upgrade to learning Win 2003 Server, but i have read that I have to license the clients even if i use Terminal service in remote admin mode win Win 2003 server!! is this true??
I want to upgrade my learning to 2003 server but this terminal service licensing is making me second guess the ugrade.
can anyone inform me about this licensing with 2003 Server terminal services?? is this true that i have to license the clients to access the terminal server even in remote admin mode?
note: I am teaching myself to admin a Win 2000 domain for future possible job.

There are no special licenses (Terminal Server Licenses) required to use 2003 Remote Administration. And in 2003, you also have the option of connecting to the console.
If you're looking for learning material, I would strongly recommend getting a TechNet Direct subscription ($350) which includes two tech support incidents (valued at $245 each) and near complete access to every Microsoft software product (except for development specific stuff, entertainment, OEM, and some consumer level software products). You'd get EVERY version of Windows currently available and these would be NON-Time Limited versions. You are not allowed to use them for production, but learning should be fine.
