Guido, That's an APIPA address. Your computer gave itself an IP address because it couldn't find its DHCP server. -Kirk

169.x.x.x addresses are Windows Auto-Configuration addresses. You need to set up the connection properly.

UNIX is an operating system, OS/2 is half an operating system, Windows is a shell, and DOS is a boot partition virus.

I configured manually the ips and i have a router with DHCP enable. Should i enable the win 2k3 DHCP too?

Thanks

Guido,

Your hosts get their IP addresses either by manual configuration or by a DHCP server. If you've got things working with a manual configuration, you don't need to set up DHCP. Should you decide to clear your manual configuration and go with DHCP, you should use a W2K3 machine instead of your router as was pointed out to me recently (see the post entitled, "Setting up server based LAN").
