He im running sinds 1 week a pc running "windows server 2003".
After a while I finally got the VPN client working and its now possible to connect to the VPN through lan.
Now my next step was to get a connection established from anywhere on the world. So you add a VPN network and connect to my IP or DNS and browse through shared folders.
This is where my problem starts, I'm on a nat so I want to portforward.
This is my current network:
Incomming connection(adsl)->Router(Speedtouch 716)->Windows Server 2003(network bridged)->4 other computers.
As I said before intern (lan) this works fine but as soon as someone else connect from the outside windows gives me the 800 error when connecting.

Hope anyone can help. Maybe more info or anything else.

Assuming you're using PPTP at the Windows 2003 server for VPN.
You need to forward port 1723 and PROTOCOL (GRE) 47, not port 47.
GRE is the Gerneric Routing Encapsulation.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

Thanks for the fast response, however.
I was able to open port 1723, but how do I open PROTOCOL 47. When I google it people say that its only possible on cisco based router.
I'm using a Speedtouch 716WL.

BTW: Yeah I was talking about PPTP sorry about that.

You might have to look for PPTP Passthrough and switch it to on.

Hi all,

I have a similar problem..and I suppose it doesn't help that I'm new to this game. :(

I am running Server 2003 Enterprise and want to establish a VPN so that the server can be accessed remotely by other computers both in and out of the local network.

Here's the current chain: Server 2003 -->Linksys WRT54G -->Modem -->Internet

I have tried setting up the VPN with the Server 2003 wizard, but get the message "Less than two network interfaces were detected on this machine. For standard VPN server configuration at least two network inferfaces need to be installed. Please use the custom configuration path instead." When I use the custom config...I can't get anything to work.

Can someone please help? Sorry if this isn't as descriptive as necessary. I will be happy to provide any information needed to help resolve this issue.

Thanks,
David
