VPN client DHCP trouble

I'm new to SBS 2003 and, as a beginner, have found it very easy to work with. I've successfully set up a VPN using the server. My only problem is that when I log into the VPN, the client computer can't get an Internet connection.
I have configured the VPN service to use a separate router to do DHCP. According to the help screens in SBS, SBS is supposed to get 10 addresses through DHCP from the router, then assign those addresses as needed to remote clients. When I look at IPConfig for the client, it appears that I have a good IP address on the client, except that the Default Gateway is listed as the same as the client's DHCP-assigned address. I would have expected the router providing DHCP to be the default gateway.
