Hey everybody,
Quick overview - I have a rack of servers in a datacenter... Application servers, a file server, and a domain controller are all located there. I have one server in the office that connects to that via a PPTP VPN tunnel using m0n0wall and Windows built in Routing and Remote Access services
Anyway - When I am logged into one of the servers in the datacenter and go to "My Network Places" to browse the servers on the domain, every computer that is in the datacenter shows up just fine. The one in the office, however (EMP2) does not show up here. I can directly enter the network address... \\emp2 - and browse its shared files and printers without any trouble
Its not a -huge- issue for me, as the server resources are still accessible, I just was wondering if there was something I was missing here :)
My best guess is it having something to do with the fact that there are 2 routers in between the EMP2 server and the rest of the network. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't file sharing for Microsoft require broadcasting? And since routers separate broadcast domains, I would imagine this might present a problem
Tell me your thoughts :)
Thanks much
-Equin
