Ok, I have a VIA AC'97 built in sound and it worked perfectly. However about 2 months ago while I was still on XP, the sound card started not play a full clip of music, it just play a fraction of a second of it about every 25 seconds (if the sound file lasts that long). Will I called HP, and they sad I had to reinstall XP that a driver got screwed up... Will anyways I then installed Windows server 2003 cuz XP sucks and guess what same problem! I used the latest drivers, checked everything out nothing! Just has the same proble m I had wi th XP! Please, does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I really don't feel like spending $20 on a sound card

My XP crashes now and then, which I think is due to the VIA AC'97 driver. The most annoying thing is when I am capturing digital video, or when I'm writing video files to DVD or VCD format. I tried uninstalling VIA AC'97, then capture and write video files to DVD or VCD format, the result is XP stopped crashing. I concluded that XP does not support VIA AC'97 driver, well, that's what XP installer warn us when we installs the sound driver. One of these days I'd probably be buying another sound card. Do anyone knows which one is supported by XP?

Hello I am a computer Tech. and I cant see why your having problems with the Driver they do work in XP. if you get any other sound card that is over $20 you should be fine. You also said you had a problem with windows 2K server well that is two difrent OS's with the same problem. What it sounds like is your onboard audio is on its way out. I have seen alot of onboard chips go bad but on the brighter side I have been seeing less and less of them go bad I think there finaly working out the bugs. for a good sound card I would try and look for a card that has a good looking box most of the time if the box looks cheap the card inside is cheap too. you should look for somthing that can do Sound Blaster Emulation incase you liek to play any old dos games.
