I dont know why this happens. As soon as I open up startmenu, the computer freezes. First time this happens it took me about 5 minutes to open up task manager and look up what was using the processor. Crss.exe's processor usage goes to almost 100% and it takes 5-10 minutes to stop this if I leave the computer alone. Similar thing also happens if I open outlook (2003) and click on any folders (But I doubt it has anything to do with outlook since crss isnt a part of office anyways). I've been runing this installation of windows for a few months without any problems and I haven't installed any software recently. I have no idea what might have caused the problem. I tried to use system file checker to restore any modified files as well, but no luck....

does anyone have the slightest idea on what might be going on here?

Are you certain that the filename is Crss.exe and not Csrss.exe? If so I would run a virus scan on your system.

I did a full scan with update nav and also used a trojan scanner. Nothing :( weirdness

what the heck this could be? it's working fine now... but I had this problem several days and rebooting nor anything else would resolve it. I don't understand.
