hello friends,

query goes here ....

1.) i have won 2003 DC server
2.) i have AD domain server in other country
3.) Trust relationship between both the above servers had been removed

4.) AD domain server guy asks me to run /dcpromo to demote the local server and to join it with the AD domain server.

my question is :

1.) temporarly the applications will not work on clients.
2.) They won't be any problem with local server DHCP pooling.
3.) no problem with data on local server which will be demoted

kindly help me at the earliest.

Your AD guy should have answered all of your questions. Why hasn't he/she?

can't answer #1 since it depends on the app
no problem
no problem

Of course you should be backing up and testing your backups to be assured.

I can tell you about one experience and it may help

I had to promote a member server to become the second AD machine in my network and I had the following problem. The server that i was promoting is the file server meaning it has the groupshare folder and all the home directories and it also has the application folder for the database software that we run.

After promoting the server all the users lost their connection to the shared folders and the home dirs. Also all the users on the database lost thier connection because the apps folder was also shared on this server.

Restarting the server fixed everything, but I had run the DCPROMO at 4:15 expecting to restart the server just after 5 when the users went home. I ended up on the PA system asking all the users to log off so i could restart the server.

I hope this info helps.
