I have a client that I setup over a year ago running an SBS 2003 server and about 12 workstations running XP Pro. Recently one user (the company owner) keeps getting "bumped" from the server. (The bubble pops up saying
"Working offline - You are no longer connected to 'server'.
He cannot access network resources via the server such as shared or printing but he can still access the internet all the time.
I have gone over his computer from head to toe. It has always been a very clean unpolluted computer but I checked for viruses & spyware just for good measure. I changed the NIC and the network cable for good meanure.
I noticed in the event viewer on his XP workstation the following entries recently and don't know if they are related... I think they are.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: NetBT
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4321
User: N/A
Computer: COMP105The name "XXXXXX :1d" could not be registered on the interface with IP address 30.0.0.105. The machine with UP address 30.0.0.2 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.
I substituted XXXXXX for the name of the domain.
30.0.0.105 is the IP of this problem workstation.
20.0.0.2 is the IP of the SBS server
I have done basic checkouts on the server but no other users are having problems so I am thinking it's in this computer.
It seems to randomly disconnect but it will always reconnect if you tell it to. So if it goes "offline" you just click reconnect and it's back on but will go off shortly again later. This is no good because when they are working on network based software it cuts them down.
He still has internet access via the network even when offline from the sbs server. (the sbs server doesn't control internet in this network).
I have purged offline temporary files with no results.
Any ideas???? Please help, I'm trying to avoid a format & reinstall. Thanks.
