Is there any way I can setup the system so that when users
log on to different computers they always get the same
desktop, network drives etc.

Ive been looking at this article and followed it through.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324749

I get to step 4 on the second half of the article where I get
lost.

It says I should have a list of users stored on the server
but I only get Administrator and SBS Backup User.

When I click on the new user like I get a window which
says 'This Server is a Domain Controller. This snap-in
cannot be used in a domain controller. Domain accounts
are managed by AD Users and computers snap-in.

What can I do to get roaming profiles?

Have your tried to start the mmc and add the snap-in for AD Users and Computers to manage that task?

Can anyone tell me what a share is? Is it just a shared folder?

jed, you didn't answer Paul's question. Are you indeed running Active Directory on your Server/DC? And, you have network drives, then you're already using shares.

Or, are these homework questions?

Ive created a shared folder called PROFILES and made it
available on the network.

Then I went into AD Users and Computers, Users and
selected the Properties. Next I selected the Profile tab and
entered the path into the top filed
(\\SERVER\Profiles\%username%

When the user next logs off their profile should be copied
to the Profiles folder but instead the user gets an error
message saying the Roaming Profile could not be
updated.

I thinks its a security problem. The user does not have
enough permission to access the Profiles folder.

How can I reduce the permissions to very low so my users
can access the Profiles folder for Roaming Profiles?

Go into Active Directory Users and Computers. It's in Administrative Tools on the server. Hope that helps!:)
