Can someone tell me, is it possible to upgrade from XP Pro to Win Server 2003 (Small Business Edition)? I realize that XP is a client version and Server 2003 is obviously, a server version of Windows. If I have to do a fresh install, would that mean that I have to re-install everything? Thanks.

Sure, it could be done if you really insist. It would be rather pointless. You would have to re-install everything.

You may wish to purchase a very cheap box to move the xp to and then use the better device for the server.

You may review your eula to see if you can use the XP on a virtual machine. Then use ntbackup with system state and move your xp install to a VM after you instlled and configured the server. It could be that with the ntbackup you could manually move each application. I have done it before and it takes some time usually. Hopefully there isn't any data tied to where the install is.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you low-branching widely cultivated annual herb Arachis hypogaea of the legume family with showy yellow flowers.

*shakes head*

It is NEVER possible to upgrade a workstation version to a server version. If you spent even a minute on the MS site this would have been obvious.

What are you thinking of reinstalling? SBS comes with bundled software and installing a different version of the bundled will only end in disappointment.

The greatest tool you have technomannt2 is your ability to do searchs on the internet. It is easy and you would be amazed at the wealth of information available at your fingertips. It's like having your local library and that of every library in the world at your fingertips.

Whatever you do never take the answers you receive on any forum as gospel. Wait for concensus.

*sorry not feeling tolerant today*

Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?

Again wanderer is wrong and insulting. A normal day in his life it seems. And I get rebuked for saying peanut.

You still could upgrade the OS, it has been done. It is not recommended by MS and really no reason to ever attempt it other than a task that uses time (if you are getting paid by the hour I guess it is OK). That is why I said if you really insist. Pay attention people.
I SAID IT WOULD BE POINTLESS. Does anyone read?

If you reload the OS you will have to install the apps.
