Hello,

I have a new Fujitsu Siemens computer with Windows server 2003 installed on it.

The system shuts down automatically every night at 12am. This is what the Event Viewer shows every time:

(e.g. 7/30/06 at 12:00:12 AM with source User32)
The process winlogon.exe has initiated the power off of computer 2SERVE on behalf of user 2C\Administrator for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
Reason Code: 0x0
Shutdown Type: power off
Comment:

The computer is connected to a UPS. The power scheme is set to Always On. There are no scheduled tasks listed other than backups.

Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

Check the backup settings. One of the settings, depending on software, is shut the server down after backup.

Unload your UPS software for one night to see if the shutdown stops. I have had UPS software shut the system down due to faulting com port communication.

I am using ntbackup for the moment, and there are no options to shut the system down after the backup. The computer does not have UPS software, the power cable is just plugged into a UPS unit.

This morning a dialog window mentioned that the system wanted to shut down but didn't because an application needed user interaction - a .txt file was still open and not saved.

The default Windows UPS service is stopped because the UPS unit cannot be controlled by the server - there is no (usb-)connection.

OK so that takes out backup and ups.
I don't know of any system function that will shut the system down on a regular schedule if you don't see it scheduled in scheduler.
What applications are you running on the server?

I have not installed any new hardware or software on the server. This is the first time this occurs. Is there anybody here that would know what caused this power off to occur?
