Folks,

I am trying to understand Permissions for user object in Active Directory Users and Computer Console for my MCSE.

I am having bit of trouble understanding it

For example:

If I right click on any of the user called say: Sarah Smith and then click Properties and go to Security tab then it lists various Permissions for various users for Sarah.

Various Permissions are Read, Write, Reset Password which admin/owner of that object can either Allow or Deny.

What I cant understand is what is meant by Read and What is meant by Write permission?

In other words if Admin has Write and Read Permission then what can Admin Write and Read for that object?

I can understand other permissions like Reset Password.

************************************************

I am trying to put in best words as possible I hope you understand what question is.

For a simple explanation, read this:

http://www.mcmcse.com/microsoft/gui...

For more in depth information, Google NTFS Permissions or Share Permissions.

Just an observation though; if you don't know what write and/or read permissions are, you're going to have a tough time with this course.

Life's more painless for the brainless.

Hi
If the user have the read permission of the particular user object. They can read the properties of the user object in active directory like first name, last name, address etc using LDAP query or any other tools. If the user have the write permission they can change the properties.
