I've recently been assigned the task of IT admin since our IT staff (one person) left the company.

I need to allow a current employee RW access to a folder on the server. I added the employee to the group that has that access but he still cannot make modifications to any of the files in that folder.

What am I missing? Please be aware I have no experience with this so if more information is needed to assist me just ask.

Thanks.

Need to right click on the files and select properties a click security tab and advanced button, be sure that the files are inheriting the rights, that is if you want him to have access to all files in that folder.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

Did he log off and log back in before attempting to access the files?

Thanks for responding.

Buckethead - I checked the folders and they indicate inheritance. If it helps, I am a member of the same group and I have modify access and can do so without problem.

Jennifer - He has logged off and on since I made him a member of the group. The problem still exists.

Have you denied permissions to any groups? I mean specifically denied, and if so, is he also a member of one of those groups?
