Subject: Unable to Set New User PermissionsOS: Windows Server 2003CPU/Ram: Athlon 1.66, 1GB RAMModel/Manufacturer: Unknown |
Comment: I've recently been assigned the task of IT admin since our IT staff (one person) left the company. I need to allow a current employee RW access to a folder on the server. I added the employee to the group that has that access but he still cannot make modifications to any of the files in that folder. What am I missing? Please be aware I have no experience with this so if more information is needed to assist me just ask. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Need to right click on the files and select properties a click security tab and advanced button, be sure that the files are inheriting the rights, that is if you want him to have access to all files in that folder. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for responding. Buckethead - I checked the folders and they indicate inheritance. If it helps, I am a member of the same group and I have modify access and can do so without problem. Jennifer - He has logged off and on since I made him a member of the group. The problem still exists.

Reply: (edit)Have you denied permissions to any groups? I mean specifically denied, and if so, is he also a member of one of those groups? Life's more painless for the brainless.
