Comment: I need help. I just setup a win03 as a print server in domain network . Win03 has a Hp laserjet 3015 attached and share as network printer. Here is my problem. Network users can't print only users with admin privilege can. The Win03 server has SP1 installed and I know it added extra security to it and I've been troubshooting this for hours. I still don't know what cause that. Thanks for the helps

Reply: (edit)Just my opinion but, considering the cost of 2003 server, it would be cheaper to use 98, 2000 Pro, or XP Pro to run a print server. Also, it might be easier to troubleshoot your present problem and possible you wouldn't even be having one if you went with a client OS instead of a server OS for your print server. As for what is wrong, I'd start by looking at the ACL on the actual printer share. Ensure all groups have the right to print.

Reply: (edit)Even easier than dealing with a pc and sharing is a hardware print server. Little box with a little price when compared to a pc. Heck you can buy network printers which have built in print servers. Everyone prints directly with no overhead on the server. Everyone with full controll on the share should address the issue. Golly gee wilerkers everyone. Learn to Internet Search

Reply: (edit)thanks all for the input. I forgot to mention that I have a Hp jetdirect 170x print server attached to the HPlaserjet 3015 print device and the Win03 server serves as centralize management for all HP jetdirects 170x. Printer share ACL is set to " Administrator - has full control. Everyone has Print permission." So everyone ( networked users) should be able to print right ? If i add an user account to domain admin group,i have no problem at all. But company policy is not allowed users to have domain admin privilege. I spent some times to research on microsoft & the net but no luck. Any body is an expert or familiar with Server2003 security or has seen this problem before I welcome your inputs. Thanks
