When i try to delete folder on windows storage server 2003 R2 i got this msg :
( cannot remove folder workshop new pms:cannotfind the specified file.make sure you specify the correct path and file name )ok.
and i want you to know that i am the administrator with full control and the owner ship.
i tried several solutions like change the name of the folder and some command like deltree and it's not working , i wish if there is any one can help me .

Seems that the folder, you're trying to delete is still in use.
What messages are listed in the eventlog, when you try to delete such folder?Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

Hi Paulsep, first of all thank you for reply, the folder is not in use . and i tried to boot from safe mode and as i said before i tried to use some commands like rmdir and deltree and many ways but no way, and i can not format the partition because i have alot of data and i mean alot like 70 GB so even i can't move it to partition C cause it's to much data.
and the problem is there is no error in event log mention any thing about it .
so please if any one can help me it's will be great .

Ok another question.
Is it a folder, you created by yourself, or is it a folder created by any installed software.
What's the name of the folder and where is it located?Ah btw., how has which rights to that folder?

Hi again, so about the folder it was created by another person who was saving his data on storage server and now i try to delete this folders but i can't and the name of this folders is ( Public ) , ( MDO ) , and this folders are contain alot of folders and files and i tried to delete this folders and files one by one but no way and some of this folders are empty and there is no any files hidden but when i try to know the size of this folder by view the properties i found the size is 454 MB . and as i said before i am the administrator with full controle and i take the owner ship and i tried the
( divfinst ) tool but can't setup on win server 2003 please can you help me and send to me another tools can run on win server 2003 as soon as possible .

Is the user, who created the folders, logged in while you're trying to delete the files and folders?
Is there a service running at the users pc, that protects the folders from being deleted?Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

Ok another question.
Are you able to rename the main folder, you'd like to delete.
That's because there might be a special character in the directory name, like ALT 255, that is not shown, but may cause problems on deleting a folder.
So if you can, rename the folder to aaa or something like that and have another try on deleting that folder.Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

i already did, i can change the name but i can't delete the folder .
it was working with some folders but with those two folders no it's not working .

If I would have such problem, I would do the following now.
1. start the server with a linux live cd
2. mount the windows drives
3. delete the folders
4. reboot into windows.But keep in mind, if you delete the folders in linux and reboot to windows, you never know how windows reacts.
In worst case, it could end up in a blue screen.So you might move the folders to a safe place instead of deleting them.
In this case, you can again boot to linux live cd and move the folders to the original location.If moving the folder to a safe place causes no errors in windows, you can go to linux again and delete the folders from the safe place.
That's what I would do now.

You have to download and burn a linux live cd.
This is running completely from the CD and did not make any changes to the installed operating system.One of my favorites is the following:
http://software.opensuse.org/Depending on the hardware architecture of your server, you need to choose the appropriate version listed there.
E.g.: CD-KDE
Burn it on CD and boot the server with this CD.
Any knowledge on Linux ???

I ran into a problem like this too. My solution was to go to a 16bit DOS CLI and delete it there because it converts filenames to 6 chars plus ~1.
- Start
- Run
- Type Command instead of CMD
- Then try Deltree

Hello again every body, i tried to show all the hidden files and folders and guess what ? i found some files and folders it was hidden , any way i remove it and i tried to delete the folders
( the main folders ) but also i can't, even if the size is zero now but i can't delete it .
now i don't have problem in the size but i still upset because i can not delete the folders .
once i'll solve this problem i'll write to you the solution ..

COMMAND
it brings up a CLI just like CMD but it is 16bit which when you type DIR you will see the difference.
