Hello all,
I have a win2003 server that would not restard in any mode, so I have repaired it with the CD and when I finally logged in as admin to it , I have noticed that all the apps on the server are not working properly, so I reinstalled backup exec (veritas) and did a system state restore and It asked me to reboot, but when I did I c000021a fatal error right before the login screen then It reboots,
I have restarted in recovery mode and did a chkdsk but nothing was fiexed!!...
I have repaired it again and want to know if there is anothere way to recover my system state without damaging the OS
ThanksM_knopfle

Here's three ways I've dealt with this issue because it can be a lot of different things that can cause this.
Case #1:
I ran into this problem a week ago working on someones computer. After being able to login as another DOMAIN user, my solution was to copy the users profile and then rename the old profile from example:
DOMAIN\USER to DOMAINE\USEROLD
then have the USER log in as a "new"user, copy desktop files and fav's over to the new profile. Worked like a charm.Case #2:
I believe that the windows update brings a new driver for the video card that screws up dell video drivers. I did a fresh reinstall and told the windows update to never ask them about video drivers again.
Case #3:
Although getting a bluescreen STOP error may be due to an incompatability among drivers, I hate to say this, but more often than not, it is due to buggy software as a result of some corruption due to trojan, adware, etc. Adaware, Spybot, etc were only of limited use.
In one case, the real cure was to strip everything off a customers Dell 600M hard drive and do a clean install of windows, office, etc. The only thing I reinstalled was their data. That was in January and since then no bluescreens.
Also, keep in mind "last known good configuration" during boot.
