I am currently using Symantec's server based anti-virus (v10). I was reading up on AMS and it has a feature that will email you if it finds a virus on the network.

I have attempted to set it up and i have failed. I can't seem to make it email me! I have looked online and i haven't found too much documentation on how to configure AMS... anyone have any ideas?

Okay, I happened to have this onhand so I'll toss it into this post. This will only work if you have access to a mail server, so it might just not be possible depending on your actual network layout. Try the following steps (I'm assuming you have it installed)...

1. Open the Start | All Programs | Alert Management Server | AMS Admin Utility.
2. Select the correct “AMS Server selection” option.
a. Local AMS Server (if logged onto the Windows server itself)
b. Remote AMS Server (if using the Symantec Administration tools remotely)
3. Click the Configure AMS button.
4. Expand “Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition”, select an alert, and then click the Configure button.
c. Select “Send Internet Mail”, and then click the Next button.
d. Click the Options button.
i. Add the IP address of the server, and then click the OK button.
e. Select the server name, and then click the Next button.
f. Enter the correct information below and then click the Next button.
i. To internet mail address: UserAccountName@yourcompany.com
ii. Return mail address: UserAccountName@yourcompany.com
iii. Subject: SubjectLineGoesHere
iv. SMTP mail server: ns-mx.yourcompany.com
5. Enter a descriptive action name for the message.
6. Create the desired message, adding any needed parameters, and then click the Finish button.
7. Highlight the newly created alert, and then click the Test Action button to verify its functionality.
8. Click the Close button, and then exit from the AMS Admin Utility.
